A good teacher needs salesmanship in an age of distraction. In an age of more entertainment than ever, including frenetic texts, tweets, and endless Facebook status updates, asking the important questions provides students a basis for where we came from and where we are headed.
Since 2003 I have taught World History classes for ninth graders. We deal with big, important questions, such as: What made the great civilizations rise and fall? What's right and what's wrong? How has technology shaped history? At night I took graduate classes in history, here are some of my writings. I have kept a number of blogs.
Since I was a young 'un playing on an Apple II, visiting BBSes as a teen, or watching the dot com hysteria unfold in as an undergraduate, I've been fascinated by technology. In fact, since receiving a graduate degree in Decision and Information Science, I've taught a number of classes related to technology including Java, Introduction to the Internet, and many others. I have recently designed a vocabulary program, which requires Java to run.
In the past, I've started a few online businesses. Here's a website I designed to rent commercial property in Kendall, Florida. Here's an on-going project related to the plants and trees of South Florida.
First of all, if you live in Miami, Florida or if you have any interest in understanding the economic meltdown of 2008, you should read Eye on Miami (the best local blog!). I have been concerned about the possibility of a development known as "Parkland" outside of the urban development boundary. I started a blog about it. Since the issue has been tabled for now, I have been relatively silent.
As of my thirteth birthday on June 21, 2009, I bought half of a 23' cuddy cabin along with my uncle. I look forward to lots of exciting adventures!
