Worldly happiness

I think when I spend too much time navel-gazing, I tend to feel worse.  Honestly, I will never discover all the secrets of nature and there’s nothing wrong with spending a day watching “30 Rock” and “Mad Men.”  It feels good to embrace entertainment and worldly concerns.  You can lose yourself.

Also I tend to spend an . . . → Read More: Worldly happiness

Great Java class!

There was intense competition to win the Project Euler competition tonight in my Java class.  We went over chapter 12 and I assigned a GUI that writes data to files.  You also have to be able to read the data.

That felt good.

I also had a wonderful grill today with my mother, grandmother, and brother.  It really . . . → Read More: Great Java class!

End of the school year reflections

In some ways 2009-2010 flew by, in some ways it feels like I’ve been teaching Government/Economics for years.   I certainly learned a great deal about our government this year.  I couldn’t have told you as many Amendments to the Constitution at this time last year.

My personality seems better suited to teaching Seniors rather than Freshman.  I . . . → Read More: End of the school year reflections

SEO

From my SEO audit (provided free from godaddy.com), I am the owner of some woefully invisible websites.  Fortunately they give some tips.

I’ve finished grading my Java programs and uploading their grades.  Tomorrow I’ll zip up the syllabus, grades, attendance and send it to the bosses at Miami Dade.  The end of the semester always feels good.  . . . → Read More: SEO

The latest version
Of course, if the link doesn’t work the Glassfish server is off or I’ve changed the version.   But hopefully I’ll make it into an interesting Mock Congress simulation.  I bet lots of students around the country would enjoy using it.

What would make it an exciting project would be to involve other smart students . . . → Read More: Mock Congress Revision

Thinking about design…

I am looking forward to redesigning my Vocabulary Program with a student at Dade.  He’s an exceptional designer.  It’s in need of a redesign.

I spent my “teacher workday” fixing up my AP Government review site.  Last night I purchased the domain name: apgovstudy.com
My goal is to help as many students as I can.  Perhaps I can . . . → Read More: Thinking about design…

Focus

I have printed out many chapters of AP Government work and I’m ready to go.  I am confident many of my students will pass the AP Government exam.  The trick is just to put in the hours and hours of study.  It’s a serious endeavor.

In other news, I had a brainstorm to create a Tamiami Area . . . → Read More: Focus

Possible projects

Very interested in organizing a “Flea Market” event for the warehouse.  Thought about a possible farmer’s market as well.
Possibly a plant sale?  “Wholesale to the community!!!!”  That’s a great idea!
Learning Java EE through a JavaPassion course.  So far it’s very enjoyable.
Donated $100 to the reddit relief to Haiti drive.  It’s Hell.
Will be teaching AP Government and . . . → Read More: Possible projects

Mock Congres Online

What have I been working on lately?

The “Bill Maker” for mock congress.  I think it would be cool to have an entire mock congress online.   Students would construct their bills.  I’ve got this down pat.

Next they would upload their bills and the bills would be automatically routed to the proper committee based on their code.  This . . . → Read More: Mock Congres Online

FCAT Reading Scores 2009-2010

Level 1 means the student hasn’t passed the FCAT.
