Mock Congres Online

What have I been working on lately?

The “Bill Maker” for mock congress.  I think it would be cool to have an entire mock congress online.   Students would construct their bills.  I’ve got this down pat.

Next they would upload their bills and the bills would be automatically routed to the proper committee based on their code.  This is a fairly trivial bit of coding.

They’d be saved on the server.  The committee chairman would click if the bills were passed or failed.

The debate agenda could be done automatically.

I suppose now I have a hodgepodge of Google Docs and ASP.NET pages.    It’s coming together nicely though.

Today I discovered how to create one jar file from many.  Deployment!  This is going to be my lesson on Monday.    With few classes left in Java, I am going to review recursion, data structures, and have a few more programming challenges.

My “Intro to Computers” class is coming to a close as well.  We are finishing strong with a series of great presentations- “All About Me!”

In AP Government the challenge is to get the students studying for the AP exam.  This is the big finale!  I’m going to keep emphasizing the content necessary to pass the exam.  But the truth is that it takes hours and hours of studying to pass the AP exam.  The students need to realize that many people won’t get their degrees.  This is the first challenge of their college career.  They need to realize how important good study skills are!  If they don’t recognize this, they have little chance of finishing college.
