End of the school year reflections

In some ways 2009-2010 flew by, in some ways it feels like I’ve been teaching Government/Economics for years.   I certainly learned a great deal about our government this year.  I couldn’t have told you as many Amendments to the Constitution at this time last year.

My personality seems better suited to teaching Seniors rather than Freshman.  I really enjoyed being able to discuss things with a more mature audience.  I liked the established Mock Congress and Budget World.

The biggest downside was the pressure of the AP exam.  Since the students did not sign up for the AP test and it was thrust upon them, it was a Herculean effort to get them motivated to study for the test.  Mock Congress was too long and I should not have continued it for so many weeks.  One session seems sufficient.

All-in-all, the students were super nice.  I think it was a successful year and I had a lot of warm feelings at prom shaking hands and taking pictures when they dressed up.  It was a fun year :)
