Worldly happiness

I think when I spend too much time navel-gazing, I tend to feel worse.  Honestly, I will never discover all the secrets of nature and there’s nothing wrong with spending a day watching “30 Rock” and “Mad Men.”  It feels good to embrace entertainment and worldly concerns.  You can lose yourself.

Also I tend to spend an inordinate amount of time worrying what students are learning.  I have a guiding philosophy when I teach Java (and Intro to Computers):  students MUST spend time creating!  I’m not as concerned with memorization as I am with creation.  They must be able to create programs.
